New garden engages the senses at Aveo Durack Aged Care Facility
Studies show that gardens can impact positively on self-esteem, mood and social interactions with the outdoor environment now an important aspect of aged-care facilities.
Glascott Landscape and Civil recently undertook landscaping at the new Aveo Durack Aged Care Facility in Brisbane’s south-west. Working for FKG Group, who constructed the new facility, the landscape works included softscapes, trellis works, courtyard planting, retaining walls, synthetic turf and feature walls.
PDT Landscape Architects designed the surrounds to compliment the building and provide interactive elements that engage the senses, such as; walking circuits, a variety of plants and fruit trees, a garden gate, dog kennel and birdbath, and tables and chairs to provide comfort while residents and their families enjoy the environment.
Establishment was split into multiple stages. Access to the courtyard was fairly restricted resulting in challenges moving in soil and plants. Also recent flooding in the area caused nursery procurement on the specific plant stock to be delayed. Despite these challenges the project ran to schedule and the client and architects are very happy with final result.
