Gipps Street Recreation Precinct Opens

On 31st August 2024, the long-awaited Gipps Street Recreation Precinct in Claremont Meadows opened to the public, marking a transformative moment for the Penrith community. The grand opening attracted over 7,000 attendees and earned prominent coverage on Channel 9 and Channel 7’s 6 pm news, celebrating the completion of this landmark facility.

The two-year project, delivered by Glascott Landscape and Civil for Penrith City Council, has turned a 32-hectare former landfill site into a world-class sports and recreation facility.

The precinct represents Glascott’s expertise in managing large-scale, complex projects, overcoming challenges such as landfill remediation and stringent environmental management, to deliver an exceptional facility that will serve the region for generations to come.

Key Project Deliverables:

  • Four full-size rectangular fields and one junior-size field suitable for various sports.
  • Two full-size cricket/AFL ovals with synthetic wickets.
  • Two netball courts.
  • Four-lane district-level cricket practice facilities.
  • A state-of-the-art amenities building featuring a canteen, multipurpose area, eight change rooms, official’s change room, storage, and accessible facilities.
  • Children’s play areas with water play and nature play features.
  • A youth zone with a floodlit skate park, pump track, and multisport courts.
  • Outdoor fitness equipment for all ages.
  • An off-leash floodlit dog park
  • Passive recreation areas, picnic facilities, barbeques, and public art.
  • Pedestrian pathways, tree planting, landscaping,
  • Over 500 parking spaces, including accessible options and coach parking.

Key Construction Statistics:

    • 245,000m³ of material handled during earthworks.
    • 3,300m³ of concrete poured and 19,000m³ of topsoil placed.
    • 3,000 metres of stormwater infrastructure and 2,500 metres of subsoil drainage installed.
    • Design and construction of electrical services, water play facilities, and a gas ventilation blanket for the amenities pavilion.
