George Kendall Riverside Park Now Open!

21/10/2024

Glascott Landscape and Civil is proud to announce the completion of the George Kendall Riverside Park Upgrade, now open to the public. This 12-hectare development is part of the NSW Government’s Parks for People initiative, setting a new benchmark for high-quality public open spaces.

Led by the Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure (DPHI) in partnership with the City of Parramatta, the former landfill site along the Parramatta River has been transformed with input from the community to ensure it meets the needs of local residents and park users.

Glascott played a pivotal role throughout the project, collaborating closely with DPHI and consultants, Benaiah Project Management, to realise the vision for the park. Early works included remediation of the site’s existing landfill gas, bulk earthworks, and introduction of comprehensive new stormwater assets to prepare the land, a key foundation for the park’s transformation.

Glascott’s team managed both hard and soft landscaping elements, delivering a comprehensive upgrade with a focus on quality and sustainability.

The revitalised park features:

  • State-of-the-art Play Equipment for children of all ages, including a learn-to-ride space.
  • Upgraded Picnic and Barbecue areas with Shelters.
  • Construction of 2 new off-leash Dog Parks.
  • Improved walking and cycling paths, including connections to the Parramatta River Cycleway
  • Bespoke metalworks structures including a Cycle tunnel, Pedestrian boardwalks, and a Hilltop lookout with views of the river.
  • Sustainable design elements like Native Vegetation Planting to enhance biodiversity and promote environmental sustainability, including the introduction of 340 new mature trees.
  • Construction of large permanent wetlands to filter stormwater prior to release into the Parramatta River
  • A new Carpark Loop road for improved accessibility.

This project underscores Glascott’s expertise in executing complex landscape and civil works on challenging sites. From groundwork to the final landscaping touches, their commitment to quality has been evident throughout.

The result is a park that not only serves the community but also preserves and enhances the local environment, offering residents and visitors a beautiful, sustainable space to enjoy for generations to come.
