Inner North Play Space: A Key Recreation Space in Canberra
27/03/2025

The Inner North Play Space is taking shape. As a key component of Canberra’s recreational developments, Glascott Landscape and Civil is collaborating closely with the ACT Government to create a significant park area that combines accessibility, connectivity, and activation.
Located adjacent to Canberra Technology Park in Watson, our team has been focused on preparing the site for its transformation into a dynamic play area and relaxation hub. Recent progress includes laying the groundwork for structures to bring this vibrant and inclusive space to life.
Recap of the Project Scope
Inner North Play Space is intended to be a welcoming environment for people of all abilities. The Glossy Black-Cockatoo has inspired the design, with its striking features and local habitat guiding the colours used across the play space. The comprehensive project scope will deliver a range of passive and active recreation, including:
- Nature-Based Play Equipment: a wide variety of play equipment for all ages and abilities.
- Inclusive Play Area: an accessible play route linking the network of accessible play equipment, with wheelchair-friendly pathways, sensory-friendly plants, and shaded seating.
- Sports Courts: multi-use courts, including one full-size tennis court, to support a range of activities such as tennis, pickleball, basketball and handball.
- Fitness, Skating and Biking: outdoor fitness equipment, and skating elements.
- Community Connectivity: accessible path network, open grassed area and an amphitheatre.
- Amenities and Parking: an accessible toilet and changeroom with baby change facilities, picnic shelters, barbecues, seating, drinking fountains, signage and bins, and accessible care parking spaces.
- Green initiatives: 108 new tree plantings, drought-resistant native vegetation and water-saving irrigation systems.
The Glascott team is working closely with stakeholders to ensure the build meets both the design intent and project goals. Over the next few weeks, we’ll start installing play equipment and soft-fall surfaces, followed by planting and final finishes.
Stay tuned for future updates, and our thanks to the Canberra community for your continuous support.
